TV Show

           I think every girl wants to be pretty. A TV show called “Queen” from Taiwan is one of my favorites TV show. It is about how to dress, how to make-up, and how to make yourself more beautiful. In each episode, the host will invite different guests to come to the show and exchange their experience. I think it is related to popular culture, because it is introducing things that are popular at the time. I watch this show every week. I have learned a lot about beauty from this show.

            Last month, we did an interview on someone about what popular culture and high culture are. It was exciting. We choose separate group to finish this project, me and Shadan to look around the city and took some picture. We walked to the Michigan Ave and Millennium Park. That day is sunny day, so many tourists on the street. Also, we listened to a wonderful music that a man was playing with saxophone on the street.  The other two people were responsible to find someone and do an interview. Through this time, it let me know that a group project requires cooperation. Lucky, we finished successfully. If we have a next time, I wish we will do the best.

Technology

          As the technology advanced, there are some gadgets that we cannot live without. For example, I cannot live without my digital dictionary. To me digital dictionary is a life saver, whenever I don’t understand a word or sentence I can always take out my light weighted digital dictionary and look it up. Digital dictionary has helped me made learning English much easier. I don’t know what I would do if I don’t have one.  

Movies

          “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” This is a different movie from other movie. I think this is very unique movie to watch. It is an inspirational film to teach us, no matter what you get problem in your life; you should not to give up. I think teenagers and adults will like this movie. There is this line in the movie that I like a lot “you can be as mad as a mad dog at the way things went, you can swear and curse the fates, but when it comes to the end, you have to let go.”

            “Titanic 3D”, two weeks ago, I watched the “Titanic 3D” with my friend.  It is talking about a rich woman and a poor man romantic and love story. After 15 years, recreation of this movie is full of surprises. The 3D effect is different from the normal movie we watched. The scene where the ship sank feels like it is happening in front of me.    

Music

           The song “Love to be Love by You” by Marc Terenze is one of my favorite song. This song genre is blue/romantic music. Marc wrote this song to his wife as a wedding gift. He sang this song to his wife on their wedding day. The lyric is very touching and romantic. In the song Marc express his love and his feelings to his wife, telling her how much he loves her. After you hear this song you would believe that true love really exists.

Reading

            One of the readings we did in class was “People Like Us”. Before I came to America I thought America is a heaven. People looks very kind and live peacefully together. I never knew that people who have the same background tend to live in the same community. I thought everyone just live together in same community no matter what your ethnicity is. After I read this article, I started to pay attention in the neighborhood that I live in. I notice most people that are in my community have the same cultural background as I do.  

Cultural Identity

    Chinese Knotting is a decorative handicraft art and as a lucky charm from China. It began from the Chinese folk culture. Chinese people think red is a lucky color. The folks use red thick silky thread to handmade the knotting. Every Chinese New Year, people will buy a lot of the knotting and use it to decorated their house, hang it in the car, and sometimes they even carry it with them. It symbolizes good luck. Now days the Chinese knotting comes in different color but the red knotting are the most popular ones.
